Hello Again!

Horse treats can be pretty expensive, and everyone is looking to save a little money these days. What's an indulgent horse owner to do?

A great solution is pelletized hay. Blue Seal Feeds makes a product called Hay Stretcher which is a large pellet with a nutritional profile similar to grass hay, but slightly lower in fiber and higher in energy. It's inexpensive (when used as a treat) and horses love 'em! Of course if you use them as feed (they can be used to replace up to half the hay in your horse's diet), they won't think they're much of a treat. But for horses on pasture they're like candy without the sugar.

Tip Of The Day:

Use a wireless baby monitor in your barn. Place it somewhere chew-proof and you can keep an ear on your horses. You can hear if she's cast herself (stuck against the wall, unable to get up...it happens!) or exhibiting signs of colic (pawing, banging against the wall). Or your can just listen to them 'talking'.

Happy riding!
