Hello Again!

Time to haul out the horse blankets...or is it?

If your horse is not clipped, has access to a windbreak and used to a cold climate, your horse may be warmer without a blanket. How is that possible?

Your horse's longer winter coat has the ability to 'fluff up', trapping air that insulates her from the cold. Piling on blankets may flatten her coat, reducing the insulating effect.

Blankets can also trap sweat, further chilling your horse. If you blanket her in the morning, be sure that someone is available to remove the blanket as the temperature increases.

There are a variety of blankets available today, all of them much warmer and resistant to weather than wool. Be sure you've chosen the best blanket for the weather conditions that your horse will be exposed to.

Also pay attention to proper horse blanket fit.
