No Climb Fence For Horses

No climb fence keeps horses in and other critters out. If that's your goal, then this may be your fence.

Also known as woven wire, diamond weave or field fence, it's similar to chain link and provides a solid barrier that keeps large and small animals on the right side - whichever side you want!

Like wood, vinyl and steel, woven wire fence is a physical barrier. It's very secure and works for horses of all sizes as well as donkeys, goats and sheep. It also keeps predators like dogs and coyotes out - a significant benefit.

The 2"x4" weave of no-climb fence keeps your horse from getting a hoof, leg or head trapped in the fence.

This type of fence must be tightened seasonally. Weeds must be trimmed back regularly. If weeds are allowed to use the fence as a trellis, the weight of the vegetation can cause the fence to sag.

Woven wire fence can be somewhat difficult to install properly, especially over rough or rolling terrain. It is better used long, straight runs along flat land.

A weave size of 2"x4" is standard and good more most situations. Look for wire gauge sizes (AWG) of 6 AWG for the top wire, 9 AWG for the bottom and filler wires.

Field fencing should be checked for loose or missing staples and tightened regularly. It should be restretched as needed. Weeds and saplings must be kept trimmed. Posts should be checked for firmness annually.
