Build A Humane Mole Trap

You can catch and release moles with a humane mole trap known as a pit trap.

Locate an active tunnel by stamping the tunnel down in the evening. If the tunnel reappears the next morning, it's active. That's your spot.

Dig your way into the mole tunnel, being careful not to cause too much damage. Excavate enough earth to fit a large jar or coffee can into the tunnel in such a way that the can is level with the bottom of the tunnel. Cover the tunnel with a board to keep light out and check the trap once or twice a day. If you catch the mole, release it somewhere far away!

Be sure to wear gloves when handling the trap so you don't get "human scent" on the can. Also, use care when transporting the mole. These are wild animals and may bite.
