Horse Health And Wellness

Horse health and wellness is a priority for all horse owners (and horses, too!). Everyone wants a head-to-tail healthy horse. Physically and mentally, we want our horses to thrive.

Wild horses live lives that are uniquely suited to their evolution and environment: barefoot, free ranging, unridden and genetically strong.

Domestic horses are bred, trained, medicated, housed and fed to suit our environment. But this unnatural lifestyle presents equine health challenges. Limited grazing, regular riding, controlled breeding...many typical horsekeeping activities can unintentionally stress, injure or compromise our equine friends.

But we can't simply turn our horses out to fend for themselves. Our pampered domestic friends are no longer suited to the challenging life of a wild horse (Where's my misting fan? My peppermint chewy treats? And who's going to braid my tail?).

To keep our horses healthy and strong, we need to balance their biological requirements and natural instincts with the current realities of their environment.

So where to begin? Start simply. Small changes can have a big impact. Feeding routines, turnout schedules and housing options can be adjusted to more closely resemble a natural equine lifestyle and improve overall health.

You can mimic a natural environment for your horse, but you can't duplicate it. Compensate with appropriate horsekeeping techniques. Equine nutritional supplementation, a horse hoof and equine dental upkeep program and proper veterinary care all play an important part in supporting horse health.

This "biologically balanced" approach to horse care is an efficient, effective way to improve your horse's health. It will also help you to better understand and interact with your horse. You'll both benefit from learning to balance!
