Equine reportable diseases are diseases considered to be of great public health importance. Local, state, and national agencies may require that such diseases be reported when they are diagnosed by doctors or laboratories.

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is a division of the US Department of Agriculture. It's goal is to protect the health and value of American agriculture and natural resources. In the event that a pest or disease of concern is detected, APHIS implements emergency protocols and partners with affected States to quickly manage or eradicate the outbreak.

States have different lists of reportable diseases, but some common reportable horse diseases are rabies, equine infectious anemia, equine influenza, and equine west nile virus.

If you would like to report a plant or animal pest or disease, you can visit the website to easily access contact information for your state or regional APHIS office. They also have useful information on many equine diseases.
